Red Pocket Records is a label on Cheung Island. It’s named after the chinese lucky red packets given out to children at Chinese New Year. – Except for some reason, Makala’s dad and uncle always called them red pockets.
New single STRONG:
First single FIRE (Chinese New Year 2017):
The origins of the Red Pocket references can be traced back to Makala’s ‘Butterfly’ EP The Chinese New Year 2013 self release EP came in a limited edition red packet envelope, with a hand stamped bespoke gold design (Bart Blazejewski), and gold CD inside – representing the old coins placed in the packets for good luck.
It’s still available digitally on iTunes/Amazon/Bandcamp/Spotify
Before Makala claimed Cheung Island and ruled as Empress, second album Moon 月 – was released on Yellow Rhinestone Records, on time for Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 (celebrating the moon, harvest, family and match-making!)
The CD is available at Cheung Island market and Rise music shop in Bristol
